Over the years AQR has developed a superb network of associates and partners. This gives us the capability and capacity to respond to virtually any need identified by clients. Prominent amongst these partnerships are:
Dr Peter Clough is the Head of Psychology at the University of Hull. This is widely acknowledged as a leading centre for occupational psychology and has won an enviable reputation for the development of psychometric instruments.
Peter is a particularly interesting and accomplished psychologist. Although operating now in the academic world, his origins are, in fact, in the occupational world.
Peter originally joined the Royal Mail where he became the Manager of the Psychological Services Department where he managed one of the largest groups of Occupational Psychologists in the UK. There he developed a selection and recruitment strategy which embraced 200,000 employees.
During this time he became an authority on Assessment & Development Centres as well as the use of Employee Surveys as a strategic management tool.
In the early 1990's Peter joined AQR where he continued to develop his expertise working with organisations such as HM Customs & Excise, Unilever, AP Lockheed, Champion Spark Plug, Astra Zeneca and Royal Sun Alliance.
Another interesting and unique aspect is that Peter has a passionate interest in Sports Psychology as well as Occupational Psychology. He has worked with elite sports persons in the world of Soccer, Rugby (League and Union), Golf and Rowing.
It is this blend of experiences and background that contribute to the emergence of Peter as a remarkably innovative psychologist. And yet his work is always extremely approachable and accessible. He is widely understood to be someone who is very practical and down-to-earth.
As his own web site puts it "I am interested in the appliance of psychology to real life problems".
A major area of interest (and one where he is now an acknowledged authority) is Mental Toughness. A good example of Peter's ability to cross over research, this has its roots in his interest in Sports psychology. Oft quoted but little understood, Peter has operationalised this concept and developed an approach where individual and teams can learn to deal more effectively with the stressors and challenges in the workplace. His Mental Toughness work made a significant contribution to our understanding of how to develop performance in the workplace.
In the course of that work he has developed a unique Mental Toughness Measure - MTQ48 - and a validated Mental Toughness Development Programme.
Another area of interest for Peter is Leadership and he has been involved in developing AQR's new leadership measure (ILM72) which is leading edge psychometric tool which measures leadership style and which maps to all the leading leadership models.
He also has interest in researching Risk Taking and the Psychological Impact of Exercise.
Peter is a member of the British Psychological Society
